Getting A Mortgage After Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Can I Buy A House After Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

Yes, you can!  Follow these simple guidelines to get started:

  • FHA financing allows you to buy a home two years after your Chapter 7 Bankruptcy has been discharged.
  • FHA allows for buying a home after one year when extenuating circumstances caused the bankruptcy.  Examples: serious illness or death of a co-borrower.
  • Traditional financing, also known as “Conventional Financing,” allows people to purchase a new home four years after discharge with a clean credit history.

The good news is you only have to wait 1 or 2 years after your Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is discharged to purchase a home.  Please keep in mind your credit history from the date of your bankruptcy discharge must be clean.

There are other factors involved with getting approved for a mortgage after Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.  Your best chance for approval is discussing your situation with one of our experienced Bankruptcy Loan Officers.
